Lenten Stole with Two-Toned Fairford

Ecclesiastical fabrics are available in a wide range of patterns and colors. Most often they are solid colored with a woven pattern. The patterns can have a raised or blistered appearance which lends to additional surfaces causing light reflection.

FairFORD VIOLET Ecclesiastical Fabric

Fairford is one of my all time favorite Ecclesiastical Fabrics to work with. It features two design elements. The image below is the pineapple motif. The pineapple is stylized and surrounded by leaves and foliage.  The effect is a wonderful sense of movement, as the eyes travel between motifs.

The second dominant design motif is an Ogee as in the photo below.

With slight modifications during the weaving process, the lighter colored parts of the design can be changed to a gold thread which results in this as the finished look.

TWO TONED FAIRFORD IN VIOLET GOLD

I must admit when I first saw these two-toned fabrics, they were a bit unusual, and it took time to appreciate their beauty.  Now I find them a delight to work with.  They offer nice range options for creating beautiful design details. So, how might a finished project look?

Two-toned Violet Gold Fairford

A black cross was positioned in the center of each stole orphrey band, and couched with gold threads. This is a simple and fast way to add a finishing tough. The cross adds a final touch to remind us of the Penitential Season of Lent.

Fairford will be available on Ecclesiastical Sewing in the next few month.
