When you are making a stole, the cloth inside matters as much as the fabric you see. Medium Weight Cotton Canvas provides body without the firmer finish of a heavier canvas. It is a practical sewn-in support for the careful work of building your layers, basting them smoothly and bringing the finished piece together.

Use it inside pastor and priest stoles, cope hoods and orphrey bands, or in selected Roman-style chasuble construction where the pattern calls for it. Outside the vestment workroom, consider it for tote bags, bag linings and other practical sewing after checking the weight and hand for your design.

Planning your project
Make a small sample with your face fabric, canvas and lining before cutting the full project. Hold it, fold it and see how the layers hang together. If you are making a larger altar hanging that needs firmer support, compare the heavyweight cotton canvas as well.
Yardage and swatches
For your sewing project, choose By The Yard and your color. A quantity of 1 is 1 yard.
A swatch lets you see the color and feel the cloth before choosing your yardage. Select Swatch Sample and the color you would like to see. Each sample is approximately 4 × 6 inches; a quantity of 1 orders one sample, and a higher quantity orders additional samples. Add yardage separately when you are ready for the project.
Swatch order terms: Please choose your cut carefully. Once processed, swatches are final sale and cannot be cancelled, refunded or exchanged, including when a swatch was selected instead of yardage.
Before you cut and sew
This canvas is supplied pre-shrunk, but it is still wise to test for shrinkage before cutting. Prepare it for the care you intend to give the finished piece, taking the face fabric and trims into account.

Medium weight is a useful starting point for stoles and pieces that need body with a softer hand. Heavyweight canvas offers firmer support for frontals, falls and larger hangings. A sample of the complete layers will tell you more than the canvas alone.
