Lovely Ecclesiastical Fabrics

Rich, bold, vibrant, striking. These adjectives cannot begin to describe the beautiful nature of true Ecclesiastical  or liturgical fabrics used for making church vestments.   Whether it is a pattern or motif, a color or design, a finish or texture, or shimmering reflection that dances in the sunlight,  their beauty draws us in, making us want to enjoy these fabrics with our senses of touch and sight. They are  in a word- irresistible!

Everyone who loves fabrics enjoys the feel and touch of textiles of every possible variation. The first thing one does when walking into a fabric store is TOUCH:  first with the eyes:  something about a fabric strikes a visual fancy. Maybe it is a pattern, or perhaps a texture. It could be a vibrant color, or something soft and subdued. Once the eyes have zoned in, without even thinking, the hand reaches out in an automatic gesture to lift a corner, to smooth the fibers through the fingers, to run the hand over the surface. We sometimes crumple a fabric, or give it a little toss to see what it does and how will it respond when put in motion. We might lift a bolt off the shelf and unroll it a time or two, and then drape it in folds to see how it hangs. Is it stiff and unwieldy or soft and “flowy”? And this all happens in less than a moment.  We judge a fabric in these ways, thinking all the while, “I like this! Yes, I DO! But what shall I do with it?” and the imagination takes over, thinking of innumerable possibilities………….and the beautiful visions of what will be. And then, our eyes wander for a moment to the next fabric, anticipating the joy of repeating the process over again……….

As we approach the launch of our online store, we thought you might enjoy a treat in the form of eye candy. Here for your viewing pleasure is a collection of liturgical fabrics which will soon be available on Ecclesiastical Sewing for making church vestments.

Each fabric is beautiful in its own special way, be it color, or pattern, texture or drape. Each has characteristics which lend it to be the perfect liturgical fabric for a special use. The fiber contents are a varied as the patterns, fabrics and weaves. The prices points range from moderate prices for churches on a budget, to exclusive silks and cloth of gold fabrics intended for unique and special sacred vestments.
